چکیده

A numerical model to represent the mechanisms of cross-shore sediment transport induced by wave and storm events has been established. The model consists of three sub-models (wave transformation, morphodynamic movement, and sedimentation) capable of representing the transport and redistribution of four grain sizes over a coastal area. It is designed to simulate the morphological evolution caused by crossshore transport. This model can thus be superimposed on existing long-shore sediment transport models. An application to a well-documented South Australian coastline suggests that the model is able to reproduce erosion and accretion trends observed in nature. The short computer run-time permits efficient model calibration and verification.

Sandbar Migration Due to Cross-Shore Sediment Transport; A Case Study of Noshahr Coasts, Iran

Cross-shore sediment transport is one of the effective factors in erosion and sedimentation, and affects dynamics of the beach profile in coastal areas. Furthermore, sandbar migration due to cross-shore sediment transport mostly effects beach nourishment, displacement of pollutions trapped in sediments, and organism and plants’ lives.  In this manuscript, sandbar migration due to cro...

Sensitivity analysis of a morphodynamic modeling system applied to a Portuguese tidal inlet

Coastal area morphodynamic models are prone to severe errors arising from various sources, including: (1) the use of empirical sediment transport formulae (Pinto et al., 2006); (2) the reliability of the data used to feed the models; (3) the use of simplifying physical assumptions; (4) the error propagation between the various modules. Since these errors can be significant, the usefulness and c...

An Implicit 2-d Depth-averaged Finite-volume Model of Flow and Sediment Transport in Coastal Waters

An implicit depth-averaged 2-D finite volume model has been developed to simulate sediment transport and bed morphological changes under actions of currents and waves near coastal inlets. The model computes the depthaveraged 2-D shallow water flow and non-equilibrium transport of total-load sediment, accounting for the effects of wave radiation stresses and turbulent diffusion induced by curren...

Development and Application of a Coastal and Estuarine Morphological Process Modeling System

By means of the physical process-based modeling approache to computing coastal and estuarine hydrodynamic and morphodynamic processes, an integrated model system was developed to simulate tides, waves, currents, winds, sediment transport, and morphological changes in coastal and estuarine regions. This paper presents an overview of this integrated morphological process modeling system consistin...

Applicability of a coastal morphodynamic model for fluvial environments

The dominant processes of sediment transport and morphological changes are different between rivers and coastal areas. In many situations rivers, estuaries and coasts need to be modelled together in an integrated way. This paper investigates the capability of a freely available, open source, coastal morphodynamic software (XBeach) to estimate sediment transport and morphological changes in fluv...
